EVENT Ima Hogg Birthday Luncheon slated for July 10

The birthday of Ima Hogg, a Houston visionary, collector and philanthropist, will be celebrated at a special luncheon and program on Tuesday, July 10.

The event will be held at the Lora Jean Kilroy visitor and Education Center at Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, located at 6003 Memorial Drive.

Registration and a tour of the center is set for 11:30 a.m., with the luncheon and program to follow at 12 noon. Those wanting to stay after the program, which concludes at 1 p.m., may visit the gardens and mansion as the guests of Bayou Bend.

Kate Sayen Kirkland, Ph.D., a distinguished expert on Ima Hogg, will present the program, Ima Hogg: 20th Century Woman of Action.

Kirkland's Rice dissertation was published in 2009 by the University of Texas Press as The Hogg Family and Houston Philanthropy and the Civic Ideal. Kirkland is a long-time docent at Bayou Bend. She was the guest curator of the permanent exhibit on the Hogg family that is now on display in Bayou Bend's Kilroy Visitor and Education Center.

Tickets for the Ima Hogg Birthday Celebration Luncheon are $45 and may be ordered by calling 713-780-2098. Seating is limited, and reservations are required.

The event is co-sponsored by Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens and Houston Woman Magazine.
