ALERT: RodeoHouston 2012 breaks records

Attendance for all activities at this year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo ranked second in the show’s history, boasting 2,257,970 visitors. The one-day total attendance record fell on Saturday, March 17, with 153,159 visitors for the day.

A combination of beautiful weather, Spring Break vacations, concerts and a fun family atmosphere are what Skip Wagner, president of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, attributes to the record-breaking rodeo season. Some highlights of this season include:

The show hosted 2,474 registered international guests from 65 countries, with some guests traveling from as far as Pakistan and Thailand. 

Five Rodeo Houston concerts landed in the list of the show’s top 20 paid attendance records, with Jason Aldean’s performance taking first place with 74,901 people. 

A record 260,033 people attended the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest to help kick off the show.

Food could be found in nearly every corner of Reliant Park, with visitors consuming 10,000 orders of chicken fried bacon, 23,000 cinnamon rolls, 30,000 tamales, 50,000 pounds of potatoes and 146,000 barbecue sandwiches.
