Cabaniss to speak to WPG

Katherine Cabaniss will be the featured speaker at the April 7 meeting of Women Professionals in Government. The meeting will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Cabaniss is licensed to practice law in both Texas and California. After a short time in private practice, she became an assistant district attorney in Harris County. As a prosecutor, she prosecuted felonies ranging from property crimes to capital murder. She was promoted to Chief Prosecutor in District Court and assigned to the Special Crimes Bureau. After eleven years at the District Attorney’s office, she became the executive director of Crime Stoppers in Houston.

Cabaniss was honored with the 2008 Director’s Community Leadership Award from the FBI. She was also the recipient of the Suzanne McDaniel Public Awareness Award from the bipartisan Congressional Victim’s Rights Caucus in 2009. She was appointed by Governor Perry to the Texas Crime Stoppers Council for a term from 2009-2013. She participated in the Center for Houston’s Future Business/Civic Leader’s Forum, American Leadership Forum, Rice University Leadership Institute for Nonprofit Executives and United Way Leader’s Circle.
