TSAP planning 57th convention

The Texas State Association of Parliamentarians will host its 57th annual convention May 20-May 22 at the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake. The theme of this year’s convention is Right Course, Right Results.

A special part of this year’s convention, open to nonmembers, will be the Academy for Leadership Development. The TSAP Academy for Leadership Development is designed to provide an opportunity for individuals preparing to step into a leadership role to acquire a variety of skills in parliamentary procedure, leadership development and effective meeting management. The academy is intended for emerging leaders, officers of organizations, clubs, board members, executive directors, CEOs and others who typically use the meeting format to deliberatively decide actions to be taken by a group.

The ALD consists of an intensive two-day session of workshops focused on meeting efficiency, parliamentary procedure, and leadership skills. It is an event designed to show leaders how they can use best practices in guiding the organization, advancing ideas and creating environments which foster growth, achievement and engagement. The second day includes a study of Robert’s Rules of Order in preparation for the National Association of Parliamentarians Membership Exam.

Thomas (Burke) Balch, JD, PRP and Henry M. Robert, PRP, two of the authors of the 11th edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised will bring greetings to the group. Speakers at the convention, who will present and help guide discussion, are Kirk Overbey, immediate past president of TSAP; Lucy Hicks Anderson, PRP, president of TSAP; Dennis Clark, PRP; Richard Hayes, PRP; Jim Jones, CPP, immediate past president of the American Institute of Parliamentarians; and others.

TSAP is a constituent division of the National Association of Parliamentarians and a dynamic, growing organization concerned with the practical problems parliamentarians face today. NAP is the oldest non-profit organization for parliamentarians, founded in 1930.
