Heart of Gold Luncheon

Neighborhood Centers Inc., the largest non-profit organization in the Houston region, will honor George and Laura Pontikes at the 14th Annual Heart of Gold Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 24. The event is being held at the Hilton Americas Hotel and is expected to raise more than $500,000 to support the education and community initiatives coordinated through 60 Neighborhood Centers facilities throughout the region.

Festivities begin with a VIP Reception from 11 to 11:30 a.m., followed by the luncheon and program from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.

George A. Pontikes, Jr. is the president and CEO of Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc., where Laura Pontikes serves as CFO and executive vice president. Neighborhood Centers is recognizing the Pontikeses with its Alice Graham Baker Crusader Award for long-term community service. The couple established a scholarship at Texas Southern University for exceptional students engaged in community service; played a key role in creating the new rectory at St. Michael Catholic Church; and provided support for an orphanage in Africa and reconstruction of homes in Central America.

Also scheduled to be honored at a VIP reception before the ‘Heart of Gold’ luncheon are U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn for continuing support of SSBG (Social Service Block Grant) funds for victims of Hurricane Ike.
