Deborah Velders, an experienced museum administrator with long ties to Houston, has been named deputy director of Asia Society Texas Center.

Velders comes to ASTC from the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, N.C., where she served as director and chief curator for the past six years. Before that, for more than 15 years, she was head of exhibitions and public programs for The Menil Collection. She was brought to the Menil by Founding Director Walter Hopps. She and Hopps, Paul Winkler and  Dominique de Menil as mentors in her professional training.
