Exhibition features Med Center

AIA Houston and Architecture Center Houston are presenting the exhibition, Building the Healing City: The History and Strategic Growth Plans for the World's Largest Medical Campus, through March 11.

The numbers tell the story — six million annual patient visits; 49 member institutions on over 1,000 acres; 6800 patient beds; 160,000 daily visitors; 75,000 employees. From its beginning, the Texas Medical Center never planned to be small.

The exhibit chronicles through photographs, drawings and models, the phenomenal growth of the Texas Medical Center since its charter in 1945 and the groundbreaking at Baylor College of Medicine. Also included are the Texas Medical Center’s plans for the next 50 years of growth.

Architecture Center Houston is located downtown at 315 Capitol, Suite 120 on the corner of Bagby and Capitol. Parking is available in the Hobby Center parking garage located across the street with entrances on Rusk and Walker. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
