Rodeo Run set for Feb. 26

The ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run, set for Saturday, Feb. 26,  is fast approaching. Registration is on track to set a new course record of 15,000 participants.

Participants can register online at www.conocophillipsrodeorun.com until Sunday, Feb. 20. The registration fee is $30, and no online processing fee will apply for the 2011 event. For those wishing to register in person, registration events will be held at Luke’s Locker on Wednesday, Feb. 23 through Friday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Luke’s Locker is located at 1953 West Gray in the River Oaks shopping center. This will be the last opportunity for participants to pick up their race packets as there will be no registration or packet pick up on the day of the event.

Runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to participate in the 10K, 5K or wheelchair races. All events will conclude with the annual Texas-size post-race party at Minute Maid Park. This year’s post-race party is presented by H-E-B and features plenty of Texas hoopla, food, live music and family fun. The H-E-B inflatable obstacle course and bungee game are new to the post-race party this year. Children can join the action at the Family Fun Zone.

Runners and walkers may also enter the Rodeo Run costume contest for a chance to win a Continental Airlines ticket. Interested participants should wear a fun western running costume for the chance to win the “Best Dressed” or “Most Spirited” award. Visit the Rodeo Run website for more information about the constume contest and to see photos of last year’s event.

The costume contest will begin at 8:55 a.m. on the steps of Alley Theatre. The wheelchair division will be the first race beginning at 9:25 a.m. The start of the 10K race will be at 9:35 a.m., followed by the 5K fun run/walk at 9:45 a.m. The post-race party and awards ceremony will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In the Rodeo Run’s history, ConocoPhillips has raised more than $2.5 million for the Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM (HLSR) Educational Fund, with $310,000 raised in 2010.
