Ella Square Demolished

The long-awaited demolition of Ella Square, located at 3011 Ella Boulevard in northwest Houston, took place today at 3 p.m.

The rundown multi-family complex has been cited numerous times for various safety violations by the City of Houston.

“Neighbors were diligent in utilizing the city’s 3-1-1 Service Helpline to make city authorities aware of the deplorable conditions at this complex,” said City Council Member Brenda Stardig. “This demolition is a perfect example of how citizens can make a difference and achieve results by reporting concerns to 3-1-1.”

The property owner is voluntarily demolishing the complex which had been issued over than 25 citations by Houston Police Department Differential Response Team officers. The property had plumbing, electrical and structural issues, as well as exposed raw sewage. Council Member Stardig credits the HPD Environmental Squad, Public Works and Engineering Multi-family Habitability Unit and the city’s legal department for addressing the issues at Ella Square in an aggressive and swift manner.
