Cokie Roberts keynotes here
Hundreds of supporters of The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command gathered at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston on Thursday to welcome one of the nation’s most renowned news and political analysts, Cokie Roberts. She delivered the keynote for the nonprofit’s largest single fundraising event of the year - the 2010 Annual Luncheon.
Supporters joined Luncheon Chairs Maria and Neil Bush, and The Salvation Army Greater Houston Advisory Board in raising proceeds for the year round programs and services operated by The Salvation Army across Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties.
Roberts is the winner of three Emmys, inductee to the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, considered one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting by the American Women in Radio and Television, bestselling author, newspaper columnist, recipient of over 20 honorary degrees, and news and political analyst for ABC and NPR.
She delivered an engaging and entertaining journey through contemporary American history, as well as a comprehensive overview of the current state of the United States political climate. Roberts, one of the few Americans to have been named a “Living Legend” by the Library of Congress, encouraged attendees to continue supporting their local not for profit organizations, like The Salvation Army, to ensure the wellbeing of their communities.
