Houston Book Fair

Tthe Eighth Annual Houston Book Fair will take place at the Museum of Printing History on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

From moderately priced used books to rare and collectible volumes, the fairwill provide a great variety of material for gift giving or personal enjoyment. This year's line-up includes over 20 dealers from across the country. Subjects include children's books, Texana, mysteries, historical documents, out-of-print, first editions, comics, among many others. The working studios will also be open for a variety of demonstrations led by artists.

From 10 a.m. to noon, local book appraiser, Kurt Zimmerman will provide free book appraisals (limit two) for Book Fair attendees. Visitors are encouraged to bring a couple of books and find out how much they are worth.

At noon, Ken Sanders, a noted rare book dealer from Salt Lake City, Utah, will discuss his role as Security Chair for the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, the subject of which was featured in the recent book "The Man Who Loved Books Too Much," by Allison Hoover Bartlett. Sanders will regale the audience with stories about tracking down notorious book thieves, as well as his experiences as a featured appraiser on the Antiques Road Show.

At 2 p.m., Chitra Divakaruni, will speak about her favorite topics: women, immigration, the South Asian experience,
history, myth, magic and celebrating diversity. She will be reading from her most recent novel, "One Amazing Thing." and her collection of poetry, "Leaving Yuba City." Chitra has written a number of novels, books for young readers and collections of short stories. Two of her books have been made into films, and many have been translated into 20 languages. Her short stories, "Arranged Marriage," won an American Book Award. She teaches Creative Writing at the University of Houston.
