Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

The hurricane-damaged home of Eric and Elaine Johnson, located at 3613 Goodhope Street in the Third Ward, is the newest renovation for the television show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

Construction crews from HNN Homes will be on site 24/7 until the new home is revealed on Sunday, Aug. 1.

Married for 15 years, the couple have five daughters, ages five to 14.

The Johnsons have backgrounds in youth ministry and became licensed counselors in 2006 when they realized their community was being negatively impacted by family disintegration. In an effort to strengthen family ties, they began a non-profit family and marriage counseling facility, the Optimum Lifestyle Community Development Center.

The Center uses fun and creative ways to teach families about teamwork and trust and provides couples with counseling seminars at either no-charge or for a nominal fee.

When the family inherited their home, they planned to restore it, but with Hurricane Ike and the economic downturn, their dream was put on hold.

While Extreme Makeover, HHN Homes and community volunteers step in and help rebuild the home, the Johnson family is being sent on a dream vacation.
