Mayor Annise Parker has tapped Daniel Krueger to be the new director of the Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering. Krueger has more than 25 years of professional leadership experience, including six years at PWE where he served as deputy director in charge of engineering and construction and senior assistant director of construction.

Krueger, 56, is returning to Houston from Lockwood, Andrews, Newman, Inc. in Dallas where he is currently employed as an associate/senior program manager focused on design and construction of Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s (DART) new Orange Light Rail Line from Dallas to DFW Airport. During his previous employment with PWE, Krueger was responsible for a staff of 250 and oversaw approximately 100 consultants and engineering and professional firms working on various street, bridge, storm drainage, water treatment and wastewater projects. His background also includes prior positions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Portland, Oregon and Memphis, Tennessee. He is a U.S. Army veteran and a registered professional engineer with two master’s degrees and a bachelor’s degree.

Krueger replaces Mike Marcotte, who is retiring after six years as public works director.

Houston City Council will be asked to confirm Krueger’s appointment at its July 28 meeting. Until then Deputy Director Daniel Menendez will serve as the interim public works director.
