Volunteer Houston Awards Luncheon

The Mayor's Volunteer Houston Awards Luncheon, which recognizes local citizens for their acts of uncommon volunteer service, takes place on Thursday, June 10 at the Hilton-Americas downtown. At the event, Mayor Annise Parker will present awards to 1- extraordinary individuals and one extraordinary group. All have helped improve Houston and their fellow Houstonians.

The honorees include RIma Blanc, Paula Cuccaro, Leonard Donaldson, Hanah Gibson, C. Stratton Hill, Jr., M.D., Naseen Khonsari, Dorothy Mackey Lurie, Don McCurdy, Effie M. Rosene, Dr. Bette Ann Snead and the Teens Reading Out Keystone Club.

The emcees for the luncheon will be news anchors Jerome Gray, KPRC Channel 2; Greg Hurst, KHOU Channel 11; and Melanie Lawson, KTRK Channel 13.

The presenting sponsor is Shell. Other supporters include Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Devon Energy, El Paso Corporation, ExxonMobil, Marathon Oil Company, Port of Houston Authority and numerous other corporations.

Volunteer Houston, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of the City of Houston and Shell, has worked together annually to honor local citizens for their outstanding volunteer efforts. Since 1974, Volunteer Houston has been connecting volunteers with the area’s non-profit agencies and providing programs that engage youth and families in volunteering. It is the home of the Corporate Community Relations Council and is a member of the Points of Light Foundation, Hands on Network and the Harris County Citizens Corps.
