Wescott named Professor Emeritus

Houston Baptist University has appointed Dr. Shari H. Wescott, retiring professor in accounting, to the rank of professor emeritus. Wescott, who received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of South Carolina, joined the HBU faculty in 1990.

In bestowing the title, HBU recognized Wescott for her leadership and her commitment to the accounting profession and to Christian higher education. Her contributions to HBU include the development of curricula for and coordination of the five-year Master of Accountancy program from its inception in 2003, as well as her assistance in establishing and her service as faculty sponsor of the Accounting Society, which provides opportunities for accounting alumni to return to campus and share their experiences with undergraduate students.

In addition to serving as professor in accounting, Wescott filled the role of assistant dean of the School of Business from 1995 to 2000. From 1994 to 1996, she also held the Prince-Chavanne Chair in Christian Business Ethics.

During her 20 years of service to HBU, Wescott has received numerous recognitions, including the Robert Griswold Outstanding Faculty in the School of Business in 1993, the Outstanding Adviser in 2002, the Outstanding Faculty in Graduate Business Programs in 2006, and the HBU Alumni Association’s Hallmark Award in 2009.
