Mortenson to speak

Greg Mortenson, the best-selling author of "Three Cups of Tea," will introduce Houstonians to his new book, "Stones into Schools," at a fundraising luncheon, benefiting Central Asia Institute, on Monday, February 8 at the InterContinental Hotel. Mortenson is the director of CAI, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that supports community-based education, especially for girls in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Festivities begin with a VIP reception at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and the program at 12 noon.

Event chairs are Susan Boggio, Sultana Mangalji and Y. Ping Sun. Honorary Chair is Joanne King Herring.

For more information, contact Meredith Wierick at 713-599-1271.

On the evening of February 8, Mortensen will present a public lecture at Jones Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. The lecture will benefit Texans Pennies for Peace. This organization educates American children about the world beyond their experience and how they can make a positive impact on a global scale, one penny at a time. It teaches children the rewards of sharing and working together to bring hope and education opportunities to the children in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
