CanCare is a network of trained volunteers — including cancer survivors,
family members of cancer survivors and medical professionals – who
provide emotional support to others facing cancer. CanCare trains groups
of volunteers three times a year. The 17-hour training course is broken
up over three days and is designed to prepare volunteers to help others
cope with the physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of
their cancer experience. Following this training, volunteers may attend
continuing education and support opportunities to learn more about
cancer and the needs of cancer patients and their families.

Crisis Intervention of Houston’s goal is to serve persons
in crisis and overcome the barriers to help due to fear,
isolation, abuse, physical disability, health, language, age,
income, location, problem type or timing of the crisis. In 1970, Crisis
Hotline was born with one phone line and a one-page list of referral
agencies and a small group of
volunteers were determined to provide 24-hour telephone crisis
counseling and information. Both caller and volunteers were anonymous,
one human being to another in a moment of need. Crisis Intervention of
Houston continues to fulfill its mission to serve people in crisis by
providing 24-hour telephone and web-based counseling, suicide prevention
and intervention education, links to community resources and community
education.

For 117 years, DePelchin has been serving the children and families of
the Houston area. The agency was founded in 1892 by Kezia Payne
DePelchin to shelter orphaned children. It was originally named the
Faith Home, because Mrs. DePelchin had faith in the wonderful business
leaders of Houston to support her cause. Although she died within a
year, the community leaders, touched by her passion and mission, became
united in their determination to carry on her work. Over the years,
DePelchin has expanded and adapted its programs to meet the needs of a
dynamic and growing Houston. Today, services are provided in over 60
locations in Harris, Montgomery, Brazoria, Galveston, Ft. Bend and
Waller counties.
